One day in La Roman Dominican Republic Advice? Good health and high spirits!
Having just come back from there (DR) onthe 8th of Feb. I can honestly say
you should go to Altros de Chavron, which is a beautiful garden and small
village, located past Casa de Chavron on the highway.. the number is
809.523.2802. It is a very beautiful place where everything is made from
stone. It was constructed in 1985 and features a huge amplitheatre, shops,
artists, craftsmen and don't forget the beautiful gardens.. It is a very
good place to spend a day and is only about 15min from La Romana. We
travelled by motoconcho to this place, however, being 5 of you I suggest a
taxi, and you should pay no-more than 400DR($8.00US) for the trip one way.
The price may have risen since the price of gas was skyrocketing when I left
there. You can also get the driver to wait for you... he will say "only an
hour" but if you take him with you and buy him a soda or whatever he will
gladly stay longer this will cost more. N'way the way I look at it.. if I
give the guy $20US for the day he will take you wherever.
Or if you wish you can board a local bus and go to Bahiyibe beach about 30
min away, however, I found that this beach was not as nice as others and
that only 1/2 of the beach is accessible to the public (regardless of the
free beach thing)... there are guards there who placed a rope across the
beach and sit in the guard station (gun in hand) waiting for non-hotel key
holders to cross that line..
Despite this, it is an o.k. beach where you can buy things and eat things
and enjoy yourself...
