Barbados has gone trough some changes since I was ther for the first time in
1990. But the island also remain pretty much the same in many ways. You will
find that the area around Almond Beach Resort (formerly known as Heywoods)
is a bit more developed now than before. So is the area a bit further south,
in Holetown.
Attractions remain the same: Harrisons Caves, Flower Forest, Andromeda
garden, Gun Hill, Cherry Tree hill and places like that is worth seing.
Excursions is more or less as they used to be: Jolly Roger, Atlantis
submarine, deep sea fishing, catamaran tours (several more catamrans now
than before), day tour to other islands etc.
Newcomer some few years ago was island tours in jeeps. I have not been on
it, but they say it is good.
The good old Bajan Queen was replaced with a new and modern boat. I am not
too fond of the new one. And miss the good old queen. Had many many good
tours on that ship.
Many new restaurants has come, and some has gone. I am not too sure about
the west coast what is good or bad anymore. We always stay on the
southcoast, and hardly ever go up on the west coast anymore.
Nightlife is pretty much the same. Bridgetown is still a dead town at
night. Most things happen on the south coast and in St.Lawrence Gap.
If you were in Barbados many many years ago, you may have spent a night or
two in Baxters road. That road is now dead. And Oistins has taken over for
serving fish at night. Oistins fish market is THE place to go on a friday
night. Very good! You can get there with a bus from Speightstown.
