What's of interest in Ocho Rios, Jamaica for a single day traveler to that
part of the island?

How far is Dunn's River falls from the center of town or the pier? Is
transportation there and back reliably availalbe? Any specific
recommentations?

Thanks

In article <5wSSb.3580$07.1016@nwrddc03.gnilink.net>, Tom says...

I took a boat once but I think I would take a taxi if I did it again.
The boat guy has to wait for you to climb the falls which takes about
an hour as I remember, I think my wife an I paid $30 or so...s/b cheaper
by taxi as the guy doesnt have to wait. Theres an entrance fee and they
charge for aqua shoes if you dont have your own(you will need those).
We chose not to use a guide and climbed the falls on our own without holding
hands with a big chain of people...too me that looked dangerous, I invisioned
that big overweight lady in front of me slipping and taking me down with
her...ouch

I wasnt overly impressed with fern gully...our favorite place for lunch was
Bib-B-Bips on main st...nice view, good food at reasonable prices and a mixture
of tourists and locals; I would much rather spend my time there then go to fern
gully.

My guess is that it took us about 20 - 30 minutes to get to Dunn's
River Falls.

The taxi didn't charge until until they returned to pick us up. They
were waiting for us at the time
that we had agreed on. We enjoyed the Falls, the only problem we had
was getting
out of there. They bring you out thru a lot of shops kind of like a
maze. We were running late
and we asked directions several times and they just kept sending us back
down areas with shops.
That's the only part we didn't like. I wish we had had more time to
look thru the shops.

The only other thing we did was stop at an area that had about 20 shops
near the pier.
