| | Guest | Documents for a Toddler? Hi - my husband and I hold passports from Canada and the UK. What kind of
identification would be necessary for my 2 1/2 year old son to take air
travel between Canada and the United States ? How about between Canada and
the Caribbean ? (Mexico, Cuba)
Thanks, Lynda | |

I suggest just going ahead and getting a passport for the child.
That way they're ready for anything.

| | Guest | Documents for a Toddler? This does raise an iteresting question.
Suppose that the parents want or need to travel on their UK passports.
Further suppose that the child is only elligible for a Canadian passport.
(Or interchange UK and Canadian if you like.)
What sort of problems might occur for a couple traveling on passports
for one country if they are traveling with a minor with a pasport from
another country?
This is definitely something to find out in advance.
I would check with the passport authorities in both countries.

I think this sort of thing is more common than one might assume.

Thanks for your expereinced answers group. I guess I should've mentioned
that there is a time constraint re: getting the documents together before we
leave Canada which is why I didn;t just go ahead and get a passport.
I'll let you know if we're turned away at the border because we only have
his birth certificate!

It is possible to get a passport over the counter at certain
offeices in the USA. I presume the same would be true in Canada.
I belive you must demonstrate the urgency to to be able to do
this by showing an airline ticket or somesuch.

I don't think that there will be a problem for the trip from Canada to
the US. However it wouldn't hurt for the other trips mentioned
(Canada and Mexico and particularly Canada and Cuba, to get a passport
for him before his NEXT trip.
