Habitat for Humanity or any relief program in the Central
American/Caribbean area. That's about as cheap as you can get without
appearing on the next "Girls Gotten Drunk" video.
I ran into a group of college kids on Andros last fall who were weighing
Loggerhead Turtle poop or some such thing. Primitive living and hot
sweaty work, but it seemed to be a good cause. They were in Georgetown
on their last night and I got them pretty loaded up on beeer with $40. I
went back to the Nekton live-aboard before the video (may or may not
have) started rolling. Look through your or other college's
bio-humanity-theology whatever department.
There are volunteer opportunities on many islands, I recently met a new
co-worker who had lived and volunteer worked a mile away from my grass
shack on Roatan.
You're young. Do it now.
