My friend from NYC and me (from Michigan) are hunting for a vacation
package -- or maybe not, maybe just a decent-priced hotel/condo whatever --
on a beach where there is snorkeling and a pool in either Cancun or Cozumel.
The problem is I can only go from December 27 through January 2 or 3. I know
this is high season, but it's my limitation. I have several questions:
1) Should be hunt for a vacation package? And if so, where? (I'd like to
engage the services of a travel agent, but to date have only done travel on
cruises and always use a favorite cruise specialist who doesn't deal in land
vacations).
2) Is it cheaper to hunt around on line for a condo or hotel and book it
separate from the air?
The main thing we want is a beach within walking distance from which one can
snorkel fairly close to shore, a pool, and a clean decent hotel.
Thanks,

| | Guest | Cozumel or Cancun Uh... excuse me, but have you ever actually been to Cancun??
I've been there 3 times and have never encounterecd any wild
"MTV" crazed students or any such misbehavior... Now, I'm sure
it exists, but since they and I don't have much in common, we've
never been close to the same place at the same time. There is not
reason for anyone to avoid Cancun for this reason, with the POSSIBLE
exception of the late-March to Early April peak of college vacation.

| | Guest | Cozumel or Cancun I haven't been to Cozumel, but have been to Cancun three times and
enjoyed
snorkeling off my 'resort' each time. But, I'm afraid the only place
in Cancun
that would satisfy your requirement for good snorkeling just off the
resort
is the Club Med. The only decent snorkeling reef in Cancun is along
the
Club Med property, but it is pretty nice. Oh, yes they also have a pool
(and a several beaches, and sailing, and windsurfing, and tennis.....)

| | Guest | Cozumel or Cancun Thanks. I knew a lot of the kids here go there for spring break, but I never
thought of it as like that all year. That's a good thing to know, and we
will be avoiding it.

| | Guest | Cozumel or Cancun Its' NOT like that all year, unless you head over to Senior Frogs or the
other clubs that cater to that market. It's also cheaper to stay at Cancun,
because of the airport right there and more hotels so more competitive
prices. I've been to both places lots of times... either is fun.
