    Default barbados hotels

    Hi All,

Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels on the island of
Barbados? There are so many to choose from, so if you experienced
Barbados visitors could whittle down our choices, that would be very
helpful. I found a great price on the Barbados Hilton at hotels.com
but we're not sure we want to stay at such a big, chain, resort-type
place....unless it's really great (looks very nice from the website).
Not interested in AI, and would like beachfront. I have no idea about
which area we want to be in. The only activity planned is a visit to
Orchid World, but that's not on the beach, so not interested in
staying near there. A place within walking distance of a nice
assortment of restaurants would be good. We'd like to spend under $200
per night, if at all possible. Locally owned is fine.

    Thanks.

I'm in the same boat. We're looking to try and return before the Dec
15 deadline. The last time we were in Barbados was '96 and we stayed
in Divi South Winds. We'd like to stay in a place like that again
where it's a very short walk to the beach. But, a bit more upscale
than Divi. There will be 2 adults and one child. So the room should
be sizeable enough to accomodate 3 people.

What's the Dec 15 deadline? Is that when holiday/winter rates go into
    effect?

Last time we stayed at the Amaryllis.
    We LOVED it there!
I read some rather unfavorable reviews of Amaryllis. One or two negatives,
I can look past, but repeated comments about how rundown the resort is,
mold, outdated and dirty bathrooms, ciggy butts on the walkways, bird
droppings on the lounge chairs, etc. At first glance, it looks like a place
we'd like, but now I'm hesitant. Cleanliness is of the utmost importance
to me, as far as hotels go.
