Salt Water and Polylink 3/ Discovery 169
Well, I have a polyethylene canoe which is nearly "maintenance free."
But now buying a larger boat, the Old Town website recommends RINSING
OFF SALT WATER after every use. Gee, that's too much work! It's
unloading and loading all the gear (heavy battery!) that scares me.
Now I simply leave all the gear in it. But I don't want the beautiful
red of the new boat to run off either.
Has anyone out there had any experience with it? It'll be IN THE SHADE
though. It's the Old Town Discovery 169 made in Polylink 3, and,
funny, they don't specify which material is affected in what way.
Thanks!

The red part probably won't be affected, but the aluminum rails under
the black vinyl gunwales would. If the gunwales don't get soaked with
sea water, you could probably just hose them off.

I have some salt water experience and you have to be really careful for
hidden damage. Can you inspect the aluminum or any metal parts if those
have any? Things like bolts or pivot pins for pedals could be in bad
shape. If none, well a visual of the finish usually tells if it has
been compromised.

Great, thanks for the update! I will have to try a little to see how
bad or not it scratches my jell coat.
