No question is silly if you need to know the answer :-)

A handbag isn't counted in the hand baggage allowance, so that's fine.
Do check on the website of the airline to find out what they specify as
dimensions for hand luggage. Some airlines are quite strict and if the
hand luggage is classed as too big then you would have to check it in as
hold luggage. Everyone who has a ticket gets a hand luggage allowance, I
often see children with miniature 'pull along' cases which have their toys
etc in to amuse them while on the plane.

Hotels often have 'pool towels' either free or to rent, depending on the
hotel, maybe you could look on their website or email them and ask? They
wont mind, honestly!

oh yes! We do and we don't even have small children..just two middle aged
people!
Not only saves money, but you can be sure you get something you actually
like.
Enjoy your holiday, we visited Canada in June, toured round the Rockies
and then travelled down to Vancouver and had a brilliant time.
