I think you should check everything with the insurer, John, as I have just
learned. They don't call it "small print" for nothing - buy a decent
magnifying glass!

Very unlikely! But you shouldn't be asking that kind of question here;

Get some professional advice from your trusty local insurance agent (not
from your travel agent!), well before your planned departure date. Buy
the maximum available coverage. Read carefully what it says about
"repatriation" costs -- transporting you back home.

And watch out for that dreaded phrase "pre-existing condition".
Underwriters, quite naturally, want to insure against unknown risks in
the far future, not against already demonstrated risks in the here and
now.
