Yukon And Alaska Hello Ray,
my wife and i spend September 2001 in Alaska / Yokon. We did not had
many mosquitoes around at that time, it will be worse in june and july,
but it depends how you travel and where you stay at night.
because your travel time varies i can not tell you much about the
climate and the tourist activity at that time...
planing your trip is not that difficult, because there are not many
ways to go, you should not miss denali national park, i am quite sure
you will need a reservation for the bus trip into the park.
if you search the web for same travel reports you will find plenty.
our trip was anchorage - fairbanks - tok - dawson city - whitehorse
- haines - tok - anchorage - seward - anchorage.
if you go to dawson city for some gold panning, do not visit the
free visitor claim, i spend hours there without finding any gold,
check the claims around dawson, some offer gold panning for a view
bucks and you search the dirt from their gold mines and you can
be sure to find some gold flickers, if you are lucky you can also
find a little nugget.
we traveled by tent, we liked the natural campgrounds from state canada
most, the private campgrounds sometimes look like parking lots for
camperhomes, but they are good to get a shower.
if you like to have some outdoor experience, there are lots of
outfitters that can arrange a canoe trip for you, depending on
your needs (we did a trip on the takhini river and stayed
outdoor for 2 nights).
you will have fun, alaska is really great, but prepare well.
i stop writing because i start to get jealous... :-)
Regards, Stefan
