Default Crossing the Canadian/US border with criminal record

Hi everyone.

I'm on pins-n-needles trying to plan a summer trip by driving from Florida
to Alaska. I found out by read a web page the I will not be able to enter
Canada with a criminal record. How does the border patrol really have the
time to plug in every state in the US to see if I have criminal record? Is
it that they just check the state where the Driver's License is from? I
really want to get in but I don't want to spoil the trip for everyone else
in my group by finding out it's really true my shoplifting past has come
back to haunt me.

The only other thing I was thinking is that the border might just so a
FEDERAL background check.

Anyone have the straight-skinny on this matter?

I don't know about crossing the Canadian border but if you are Canadian and
cross into the US they may ship you off to Syria...

Default Crossing the Canadian/US border with criminal record

Hi you might be able to get away with it but you could end uop with a ruined
holiday. Best suggestion is to go to your closest consulate/embassy office
and get a waiver that will allow you to enter legally
Bets luck

Yes! Get the waiver well in advance. If your record is for a
"misdemeanour" offfence, it's relatively easy to get one. Convictions
for crimes of violence are more complicated, and firearms offences ring
a very large bell! Get the application forms from the nearest Canadian
consulate.
