Places to see in and near Toronto?

Hi,

I'm going to Toronto in late September / early October with some
friends from the UK. A couple of us have been to Toronto before and
we're trying to find interesting things to do in or nearish the city.
Any recommendations are gratefully received.

We're looking at visiting Algonquin Park, so 'near' covers anything
within a few hours drive of the city.

Things we're after is anything from art/museums through to nice
countryside and beautiful places. Don't think we're going to do
anything too strenuous/dangerous like white water rafting.

My family and I will be visiting the Toronto area during the first part of
October. We have plans for the Oktoberfest in Kitchener which begins on
October 7th.
