Default Trans-Canadian Highway

I have been considering driving from East to West along the trans-Canadian
highway. I have read a report that the highway surface is not in good
condition in many places due to the effects of severe weather (winter),
that it is mostly a 2 Lane Hwy, that it is not recommended for
automobiles, and that there are a very large number of big trucks that use
the road. I am concerned because I have a bad back and need to drive on
roads that are smooth and well surfaced. No one I know has traveled the
road. I am traveling in an Acura 2 Wheel Drive car.
Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.
I thank you all in advance,
Harry

I have driven the road in my tercel. Other that tough mountains in BC, it
was fine. I would think the transcanada would be the best kept road. Yes,
it is a two lane in alot of areas, but you are going through quite a bit of
low density. You'll know what I mean once you hit the praires. If you plan
on going to the Queen Charlottes, that's where the road is rough. But if
you are just going from Calgary to Van, so prob.
Enjoy the trip, take the time to look around.

Who told you this nonsense? The Toronto Chamber of Commerce?

It is a perfectly good highway. Yes, the surface takes a beating in
winter, but so does every other one in North America. ANY passenger car
will move you in comfort and safety.

I did it myself once (Ottawa - Vancouver in 4 days) and loved every
minute and every mile (pre-metric age!). They were some of the best
days of my life -- every Canadian should do it!
