| | Guest | itinerary Hi,
Is it advisable to book hotels a month ahead in British Columbia ? Or
can i book on the spot ?
I'm planning to travel single by car from 7/16 to 7/23 in a circle from
Vancouver to Vancouver island, Powell River, Whistler and back via
Kamloops, Fraser Valley to Richmond/Vancouver.
Is that schedule too tight ? or should i make less stops and stay longer
in one place. I've looked at many guides but still not sure.
Regards,

| | Guest | itinerary Oops! Almost forgot your other question: if your objective is to cover
as much ground as possible, then Yes, your proposed itinerary is doable.
It takes you through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world,
and crosses several climatic zones, so you will see everything from the
idyllic Gulf Islands to tall mossy Douglas Fir forests on Vancouver
Island, then to the magical Whistler Resort (site of the 2010 Winter
Olympic Games) where one can dine VERY well indeed.
North of Whistler you enter a drier interior zone where real cowboys
still herd real cattle, and then return to the green farmlands of the
Fraser Valley via the rocky and semi-arid Fraser Canyon section of the
Trans-Canada Highway.
If I had enough time, I might think about non-travel days in the old
beach-and-golf resort towns of Vancouver Island's eastern shore, and at
Whistler where day hikes or swims will whet your appetite in a resort
where it is a hanging offence to serve a bad meal!
Then be sure to let us know how it all works out!

| | Guest | itinerary You will have no difficulty in booking rooms on the day, except perhaps
for towns which are hosting big public events (the Williams Lake
Stampede, for example).
Almost every BC town has a Visitor Information Centre (often sharing
space with the local Chamber of Commerce) where you can get maps,
brochures, etc. Best of all, they will make hotel reservations for
anywhere in the province at no charge to you.
More at <hellobc.com>
I would, however, suggest that you book your ferry passages ASAP, since
only a portion of the spaces on each sailing is in the reservation pool.
They tend to fill up rather quickly, especially for weekend travel.
Yes, they do carry an extra reservation fee, but the $15.00 or $17.50 is
well worth it for peace of mind. More at <bcferries.com>

| | Guest | itinerary It's damp. It may be less damp than some other areas, but it's still
damp... Of course, you don't have to shovel rain!
