Default New Hornsby Platform

How long before this one is in use.

I know that Epping to Chatswood business is a long way off (feb next year I
believe) but it seems that the new platform at Hornsby is nearly ready (and
the new track also).

Thx

Richard...

Default New Hornsby Platform

My understanding is that the new platform 5 at Hornsby will allow
platform 4 to work exactly as platform 2 does at Berowra. All
terminating trains from the main north will turn back from platform 4,
without interferring with through movements on the down (via plaftorm
5) or up (via platform 3.) No more unnecessary shunting of terminating
services.

Now how about the same deal at Craigieburn which is becomming a huge
bottleneck and delaying both through down services and starting up
sparks which have to be refuged.

Best regards............Paul P

In the May budget, the Victorian government allocated funds to create a
third platform at Craigieburn which will allow suburban trains to
terminate there without blocking the main line.

Space for the third platform was left when the recent electrification
extension project was done. The fact that the platform wasn't actually
provided at that stage is an example of the ridiculous lack of vision in
recent rail projects.

Another example is the just-completed re-sleepering with concrete
sleepers of the Corio - Geelong section of the Geelong line. This could
have been more easily and cheaply done as part of the Regional Fast
Rail project, when the whole line was closed for six weeks in early 2004.
