Default [NSW]- Thoughts from the past.

You are incorrect. Simon Lane was appointed by the government on the
recommendation of David Hill after Len Harper launched the botched
timetable.

Where the system has is when the government sacked Simon Lane after the
successful Olympics, from there the NSW railways have gone bad.

Ron Christie came along and appointed all his ORTA cronies to positions,
these people without exception have led the railways into the sorry state it
is now.

If the government really want to do something to revitalise the railways
bring back Simon Lane and his choice of management team and watch the system
prosper.

It is worth noting that Simon Lane is now running the very successful
Singapore Rail system - I am sure they wouldn't have him on board if he was
not a very competent Railway CEO>

I would be happy to sign a petition, anything to restore some prestige to a
great network.

Did Simon Lane come from the buses? Or was that Howard Lacey?

With A Current Affair in pursuit. He did pretty much to staff morale at NRC
as he's done at Cityrail.

Simon Lane came from Vistoria and before that the UK he is a real "operator"
in the railway sense of the word.

Must have been Howard Lacey who came from the busses then. He raised
productivity & staff morale there but wasn't given a chance on the trains
