| | Guest | Train Driving in Oz. Hi all, I'm new to the site so first off let me start by saying hi to
everyone in 'rail'.
I'm a UK train driver looking to emigrate to Australia & have just
started researching the possibillity of becoming a train driver in Oz.
We had a sort of recce trip in May of this year and while I was in
Adelaide I rang up TransAdelaide to enquire about any driving jobs.
Unfortunately the girl on the other end of the phone sounded a bit out
of her depth & I didn't get much info from her. But the puzzling thing
she did say was that i would have to get an 'HGV' licence to get into
the train driving grade! Is this correct? It struck me as a bit odd &
I should have questioned it at the time but didn't.
So i hope some of you guys(or gals) can help me out, would I need an
'HGV' licence first?
This is probably gonna be the first of many questions so just tell me
to 'bugger off' if i start to get on your nerves!

No Problems Jim, I will give them a ring. We are not looking to come
over for another 12 months or so but I can ring and see where I stand.
Cheers, Effy. | |
