Default The Ghan - Failure in the NT?

I understand that on an occasion recently, The Ghan was a total
failure in the Alice Springs to Darwin section, requiring a
replacement locomotive and thus throwing the freight service out of
kilter.

The owner/operator of the line was apparently not amused, and has
since directed that all passenger (and possibly other, such as the AK
inspection) trains traversing this section must be worked by two
locomotives.

Does anyone know any more details?

Seems you have been misinformed. I havent heard of any such failures, and
there are always 2 locomotives on alice darwin trains.

I don't know whether there was a failure or not, but the issue is that
the owner/operator is reportedly insisting on there being two
locomotives even if the intending operator of a particular train only
wishes to use one (e.g. Ozback Explorer).

I am sure that the AK inspection train at least has run with onlu one
unit - and a sinbgle-ended one at that, causing soem difficulty at
Darwin as the Turntable wasn't fully active at the time.
