Bathurst City Council received a ridiculous quote to get the engine running
from the Powerhouse Museum. Now the engine will be reassembled in Lithgow
and returned to the Plinth outside Bathurst Railway Station. If the Council
had spend the money on the engine that they have spent on legal fees and
outside consultants the engine would
have been up and running long ago.
I am not about to buy into who is right & who is wrong however the facts
are:
If only the people on this group realised how much money Bathurst City
Council have spent on legal fees, moving costs etc- It would have paid for
5112's total restoration costs twice over.
All that was ever required was for Bathurst Council to put up a very small
amount of money to keep the project ticking over at a vital time- which they
refused to do. This amount was miniscule compared with their annual budget.
Without any funding the group slowly withered and died, and lost some
extremely dedicated & talented people who had put years of effort and a
considerable amount of their own money into the project, yet are constantly
made out to be the villains.
