Default NSW - Hornsby station upgrades

Hornsby Station is to get a extra rail platform and line put in on
western side, replacing the bus stop area which is relocated across the
street behind it.

Berowra to get another platform and line to i understand.

Complete by 2007.

I haven't commuted through there in about 15 years, but Hornsby used
to at least have a dock platform next to platforms 1 and 4, however I
would have thourght it would have been easier to go around platform 1
than 4. Making platform 1 an island for Nth shore and current No.2
more flexible to service mainline.

Berowra already has 3 lines, I would have thourght the easiest option
would have been to simply but a platform on the loop, which itself was
a tight fit to install as they didn't want to replace the foot bridge.
Apart from the extra platform, I cannot see the need for 4 lines
unless the local and interurban trains through Berowra go every 15min
each and even then there should still be plenty of time.

This makes alot of sense. Hornsby is a real bottle neck for thru
movements! How many freighters get put onto the loop just south of Cowan?

I have to disagree here. There is lots of space next to platform 4 (the
bus stop area, etc). Its just a matter of shifting a whole lot of dirt,
redeveloping the bus/rail interchange, and extending the bridge (pacific
highway goes over the top) for one more track.
