This couldn't have happened unless the tram derailed and crashed into the loco
in the cutting below :-)
From the opening of the line a bridge was provided to carry Bulleen Road, now
High Street, over the Outer Circle. The bridge still existed until the 1980's,
but "beautification" works have since eliminated the western side of it. Is the
eastern side still apparent behind Dunning's wood yard?

I think you mean Gardiner rather than Glen Iris.
Also, the train/tram prang was at Whitehorse Rd Deepdene. The tram
involved survived and lives on as Ballarat 11 - albeit not currently in
operational condition in the BTM. | |

Harumph. You're going to make me find the book it was in, aren't you!

I think Daniel may have been referring to the crossing at the Deepdene
shopping area, where the Outer Circle would have crossed what is now the Box
Hill Tramline some three hundred yards on the down side of Burke Road at the
start of Whitehorse Road.

As others have mentioned - it was at Deepdene, 4th August 1923. See "Clang
Clang Clang" p47. (There was an accident in Kew in 1920 involving a
steamroller).

No. East Kew station was at the junction of Harp Rd and High St. Dunning's
wood yard, opposite the Harp of Erin pub, used the goods service to East Kew to
get in its I-wagon loads of mallee roots etc. The impossibly high cords of
wood stacked neatly in their relatively small yard was well recognised feature
at the junction - maybe still is.
