Default [NSW] De-Motored Comeng Car

Gang,
Whilst waiting for the train this morning at Newtown, I spotted what looked
like a de-motored Comeng Series 2 control car running as T4701 (I think as I
only saw it briefly). Am I seeing things or are some motored cars being
converted to trailers? Also what was its original identity?. Was it
converted due to accident or other damage?

thanks
Rob
