Default UK insurance for travel to Oz and PNG

Any recommendations?

Looking for a year's worth of worldwide cover, individual trips
of less than 30 days, but primarily for the upcoming "expedition".

Are you just asking for Annual travel insurance?

We are with Churchill, who after looking up several insurers offered exactly
what we needed. eg individual trips of up to 60 days ( this was the most
important for us, most only offer around 45 days ) and cover for short break
UK trips as well as day trips to Europe. We pay £113.50 for the 2 of us.

It seems to be an antipodean thing. 2 years ago I bought an annual
travel policy in NZ(as I was going back to the UK and across the ditch
to Aus regularly for work) It cost over NZ$700 (can't remember the
exact amount now) This was for a worldwide multi-trip policy with each
trip covered for a maximum of 42 days. I was dumbfounded at this as I
was used to the relatively cheap annual policies I used to buy in the
UK, but it was still cheaper than buying individual policies for each
trip as these horrendous prices aren't just limited to annual policies
on my last trip to the UK for 6 weeks I was quoted around NZ$450 (for a
single trip policy)
(We can get similar cover by using a gold credit card from our local
bank as long as we pay for at least 50% of the trip on the card and as
the annual fee is <$100 we use this method these days)

(On the other hand other insurances eg car seem to be cheaper than in
the UK)

Fair point, I should've repeated the info in the body.
