Default Australia - Places Off The Beaten Path

That's also not a problem to me.
I just want to know the great places in Australia (NSW and Queensland)
and not the well known ones.

OK

Just some snippets, from Sydney to Brisbane.

B=beaches, water
D=scenic drives

D. Broken Bay - take the old Pacific Highway to Gosford, not
the freeway.

B. Port Stephens, just north of Newcastle.

BD. Forster-Tuncurry, turn off just after Bulahdelah, via
Pacific Palms and the lakes.

D. Wauchope/Timber Town

BD. South-West Rocks(Trial Bay Gaol)/Gladstone/Smithtown

D. The Bellinger Valley (lovely scenery as you follow the
river up, possibly then on to Dorrigo).

B. Urunga, go down to the beach.

D. From Coffs Harbour, take the inland route to Grafton via
Coramba, Nana Glen, and Glenreagh.

B. Yamba. You have to have a beer at the Pacific Hotel.
Glorious elevated ocean view.

B. Byron Bay (the light-house, most Easterly point), or go
inland to Nimbin and the hippy/grass culture

D. Murwillumbah/Mount Warning

B(beer). Or go to the coast at Pottsville and I'll have a
beer with you:-)

D. Border Ranges National Park

D. Lamington National Park/Springbrook/Purinuin Falls

Just snippets. Allow more time. Relax.

Cheers, Alan, Australia

Default Question for Australian people

Thanks for your replies!
All of your suggestions are most helpful. Please keep them going, my
list of places to go to is growing!

@Charles Kooij:
Adverteren is niet echt mijn bedoeling (al zou ik het leuk vinden als
wat meer mensen gebruik zouden maken van mijn forum), maar dat
terzijde. Bedankt voor je reactie trouwens. En believe me ik ga niet
naar Woolworths, eigenlijk wil ik helemaal geen Nederlands tegenkomen
(als het even kan!).

Default Question for Australian people

May I also suggest that if you come to Australia that you show some respect
for the land you are visiting.

On the Atherton tableland there are a number of fig trees that are great
attractions.

Why do European tourists insist on climbing over the fence to climb on the
trees, damaging them in the process, just to get their photo taken?

The only reason the trees are there in the first place is because someone
had the foresight to protect them.

We have State Forests and National Park in many places across Australia.

Why do European tourists insist on taking "short cuts" through state forests
and national parks instead of walking on the made tracks? Quite apart from
the damage done to the surrounds, you never know when a Joe Blake is going
to rear up and take exception to the intrusion on his domain.

Of course European tourists are not the only ones to blame; there seems to
be quite a few mindless Australians among offenders.

A little common sense would be nice. If we don't all protect what we have
then it will not be available for future generations.

Default Question for Australian people

You're absolutely right Ross!
People all over the world should pay respect for each other and their
countries.
I know there are a lot of tourists who do things that are not allowed,
they're mindless doing things like that. Everybody should respect the
nature (and of course the people living there).

Speaking for myself, it's a dream coming true for me that my girlfriend
and I are going to Australia. I will pay respect for the nature and the
people (like I do in every country I visit).

If you got any suggestions for me, I would love to here them!

Tim

Default Question for Australian people

Is there really that much damage by tourists in Australia? That's
really not a good thing.
If tourists mess around with nature (where ever) they should pay for
the costs and they should be educated about what they did. Of course
it's especially wrong if there are signs, that say You cannot go there!

But coming back to my starting question: I just want to know the great
places in Australia (NSW and Queensland) and not the well known ones.
Anybody else?

How do you think places get to be well known? In many cases because they're
beautiful places to visit. I live on Hinchinbrook Island near
Dunk/Cardwell. In our immediate neighbourhood we've got many locations that
are just brilliant. Mostly the caravan crowd come thru as its a long drive
from the more major centres. I'm sure books like LONELY PLANET will have
their opinions too, but some find their opinions pretty crook. There is a
good display and guide office on the wet tropics in Victoria street,
Cardwell. You might try there for some help.

Default Question for Australian people

Thanks you all for your suggestions!
Now I've got 2 other questions. I'm going to Australia (NSW, QLD) in
August/September.

What are the temperatures and appropriate clothing for that time of the
year? I'm hearing different things, some peolpe say it can be very cold
(NSW). Other people say that the weather temperatures can be quite
nice. Is it also possible to swim or is it cold?

What I also want to know is, the sunrise and sunset times in the period
that we're going.

Thanks again!
