I've got the Gregory's guide to Melbourne, and believe they do other
cities. Very well done. The larger Sydways are very expensive and hefty to
haul around.

Whatever you buy, I think you'd be wise to wait till you get there to buy
it, as they would be 1) cheaper and 2) possibly more up to date.

As for streetmaps, if you can find the Periplus Travel Maps, you won't be
disappointed. Just the right size. The HEMA maps are less expensive but
less detailed as well.
