Whanganui national park river road accessible with conventional vehicle

Hi Folks,

we want to tour the Whanganui national park. As parts of the river
road are unsealed between Matahiwi and Mangeatoroa I was wondering
whether a 4-wheel drive is required or whether the unsealed part is
doable with a conventional vehicle.
