Default stop over in Bangkok

I have an overnight stop over in Bangkok on a Sat night... what are
the must see things for a first time visitor to Bangkok that are
doable in one evening... I am willing to stay up all night.

Take trip on the river (preferably one with a tourist one with commentary
(if you have never visited). It will give you a good view of Bangkok.
Depending on how late you get there, you could get on and off and wander
around in areas that appeal - Chinatown, grand palace.

If you are interesting in shopping the street markets (Pratunam) are fun, as
are some of the big shopping centres like MBK that have to be seen to be
believed!

Next time try and stay longer. Bangkok is wonderful.

Depending on where you're coming from you might be too jet-lagged to
really enjoy anything. The main tourist sights aren't easily
accessible at night, or are closed. You can take a boat trip on Chao
Phrya but if you don't have a hotel you might have a hard time
arranging it.

Are you planning on a hotel? If so, which one. We could recommend
stuff close to that hotel.
