Anyone Still Use Traveler’s Checks?
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone still used traveler’s checks when traveling
in Asia?
TIA

Nope, no point these days.
ATMs everywhere I've been for the past few years.
My UK HSBC debit card has worked everywhere I've taken it in Asia, the
Middle East and the USA.
That includes everywhere from the cash machine in a 7/11 in a one horse
town in Texas to a rather dirty 'hole in the wall' ATM in Goa.

I still use them. It is very secure travelling money. Replacement is
efficient.

Why am I not suprised...
Tell me, do you use them at home or do you usually trust yourself not to
drop you money everywhere?

I agree. Once when I was traveling alone, I had misplaced my cash,
travelers checques, ATM cards, and credit cards. I was able to get
immediate replacements for my TC and my AmEx card, saving my
vacation. I consider it to be last resort insurnace that I hope I do
not need to exercise Normally, I deposit the TCs in my bank account
when I return.

Some people seem to be incredibly unlucky (or careless). In over 30
years of traveling internationally I have only suffered one major
loss. That was when my hotel room was broken into and they took
everything of value in it.
I've never seen any value in taking travelers checks. They're just
something else to have to worry about getting stolen. If you don't buy
them in the first place then that money stays safely in your bank
account at home.
I take a couple of credit cards and an ATM card with me when I travel.
One of the credit cards stays locked in my hotel room and the other
two cards I carry around in my wallet. If any of them should get lost
I can still get money using one of the remaining ones.

Why on earth do you behave differently when you're travelling to the way
you behave when you're at home?
When things change people make mistakes...

Why don't you do exactly what you do at home?

I do, more or less.
I carry a credit card and ATM card around with me when I leave the
house. The only difference is that back home I have a wider variety of
alternative methods of obtaining money available to me. Obviously I
wouldn't want to take all those with me when I travel overseas, but
the basic principle is the same.
I also keep an extra ATM card in my car so that if someone decides to
steal my wallet while I'm outside I can still get hold of some cash to
get me by. That also comes in useful if I set off driving somewhere
and forget to bring my wallet with me when I leave home.

Money? I don't carry money at home. Why should I?
