There are zillions of different sort of cards around in terms of technical
implementations even if they all are Cirrus compliant. For instance a few
months back a Finnish banking syndicate had to withdraw from circulation a
set of their brand new cards. For some reason many card readers couldn't
cope with them. However such problems are discovered almost instantly.
