Default Yangshuo Surrounds

My wife and I plan to spend a week or more just outside Yangshuo, China. We
are avid bike riders and plan to travel as far as possible from our Yangshuo
base on a daily basis, even if we would stay in another local village
overnight. Day trips preferred, we would love to hear about worthwhile
visits and stays, including market days. Language should not be a problem
as we both speak Mandarin and Cantonese. Thanks in advance for your
replies.

I have been twice to Yangshuo on holiday and really like this small
town, so I would recommend that you base yourselves here and do bike
day trips to the surrounding area. I hired a guide on some of our bike
trips, even though I was traveling with my chinese g/f, who spoke
Mandarin and Cantonese, because they know all the tracks across the
farmlands, and also the major sites that you should see. We ended up
having lunch with the guide's family which was a nice touch. One trip
that was popular was to take your bike on a boat up the Li River to see
the karst landscape and ask them to drop you at the village (Xingping
?)on the way back and from there you cycle back to Yangshuo. There are
many hotels to choose from, but both times we stayed at the Explorer
Hotel at 100 RMB, which seemed good value to us and very handy to the
centre.

Thank you both for your updates. We will be using a guide and renting bikes
everyday to see as much as possible during the week we are day. We are also
interested in any local markets of value in the surrounding area.
