Default Five evenings in Chiang Mai

Single male traveller. I'll be doing a cooking course during the day
(afterwards I should be able to impress girls like the guys on queer-eye).
So it's just the evenings that need filling. Suggestions please.
In khoa san, I am usually able to hook up with other sad friendless geeks,
but don't know if there's a place where that will happen in Chiang Mai.
Incidentally, last and only time I went to Chiang Mai, I was hospitalised on
day one, for five days, and was taken back to the airport in an ambulance.
Chiangmai Ram Hospital on Bunrungruit Road was very nice except the sick
bloke in the next bed had his wife sleep with him. Still, I did teach him
how to say "sugar". I'll be staying at Tamarind Village which looks as if it
would only attract very dull people. I'm hoping not to fit in.
Thanks
Matt

You could do the night bazaar one evening, which allows you the
opportunity to check out some of the local/regional hill tribe
handicrafts and do some people watching/interacting; there's also a
food court area with a stage that features traditional Thai dancers
performing to live traditional Thai music. There's a funky sports-type
bar next to Top North Hotel (41 Moon Muang Road, near the moat and one
of the old city gates) that as I recall was called the Australian (?)
that has a Mui Thai boxing ring and features amatuer bouts (I got there
in time for the last bout of the evening, hence didn't have to pay any
cover charge), in addition to pool tables; it was odd in that this Akha
girl that I was drinking with says that the bar owner (a friend of
hers) is a katooe (lady boy).
