Default Angkor Wat places to stay

Anyone stayed at Peace of Angkor in Siep Reap (guest house)? or La
Residence d'Angkor (Pansea Orient - Express hotel). I know its like
comparing apples to oranges ($35 US per night vs $205) but I'm trying to
decide between the two. The guesthouse owner is a photographer and that
is my interest. The hotel will have more creature comforts and will
impress my date. What to do? What to do? What to do?

This is only for 3 days 2 nights.

TIA
Jim

I have been in Siem Reap and for me the ONLY good place is really RED LODGE
which is for younger backpacker-style types but it really is the only place
I could find that is a warm hospitable small hotel with a nice very helpful
staff always there for you. only cold showers but it is so hot there that
it is not a problem. If you are young this is the only place to
go!!!!!!!!!

I stayed there in august 2004. Be aware that the villa changed location in
january 2005. So I can't help you about the features of the new villa (but I
have been told it's a little bit far away from the center). Anyway, from
their web site the new villa seems to be quite better than the old one. Dave
and Colleen, the owners, are wonderful people, always ready to help you. The
staff, composed of young cambodian people eager to practice their english,
is very helpful too. Dave is a keen photographer (during a day trip to the
Tonle Sap Lake, he never left his camera!). They can arrange tours for
photographers.
Enjoy your trip
