KOYOKO INN at Tokyo > I will probably stay at the one in SHINJUKU KABUKI-CHO. Any comments on the
> area??
Part of Kabuki-cho is an entertainment district with loads of bars,
karaoke places, movie theaters, and restaurants, and another part of
it is a small red-light district. The area is safe, but very noisy at
night. The area has nothing to do with the Japanese dramatic form
known as kabuki - it got its name during the reconstruction of Tokyo
after World War II when there was a plan to build a kabuki theater
there.
As a base for exploring Tokyo, Shinjuku is great since it's a major
transit hub and it's fairly central to most places of interest -
unless your visit will mostly focus on the more traditional aspects of
the city like temples, shrines, craft shops, and museums, most of
which are in the opposite corner of the city in Asakusa and Ueno. |
