| | Guest | Tokyo Excursion A tour book has recommended excursions consisting of Kamakura, Nikko, and
the Nihon Minka-En. I'd like to know if any of you have an opinion of how
to prioritize the three or which to simply eliminate. I'll likely do but
one. Any other suggestions for a short excursion would be welcome. Thanks,

I'd second that. Kamakura is close to Hakone so they could be combined
into one trip.

I don't know about Nihon Minka-En. I did an enjoyable day trip each to
Kamakura and Nikko. Going inside the Great Buddha at Kamakura was fun,
but if I had to pick one of the two, I'd definitely go for Nikko. | |

| | Guest | Tokyo Excursion Nikko, hands down. If you are going to be in Tokyo in autumn, try to go to
Nikko during the week. The region is very popular for autumn color viewing.

| | Guest | Tokyo Excursion Nikko and Kamakura are both first-rate, but they're in opposite directions.
Hakone is great, but as a substitute for Nikko, Hakone would only be in the
running if you were lucky enough to be there when the views of Fuji are
clear. When I was last there in autumn 2002, we had fantastic, clear views,
the best I have ever seen. Some Japanese who were staying at the same spa
hotel, were ecstatic. Some said that they had been coming to Hakone for many
years and had never seen an unobstructed Fuji.
