Having been to both, I can tell you that you can't compare Phi Phi with
Pankor Laut. The nearest equivalent on the Andaman side of Thailand
would be Mai Tong and, although I've visited the island, I've not
visited the resort.
Pankor Laut is one resort spread over the whole island. I had four or
five days there about five years ago and that was fine but, quite
frankly, it was long enough. There are several restaurants but the
choice in each is pretty limited and you can't book a table. I also
found the idea of sticking a flag up every time you wanted a drink on
Emerald Beach a bit over the top.
As for Phi Phi Don, I've been there twice this year and while it's fine
to go ashore from a boat for a few hours for provisions or a meal, Ton
Sai village a dump, overcrowded, noisy and tacky.
If you want a really upmarket resort in Malaysia, try the Datai on
Lankawi.
