hotel recommendations for Hanoi please

I'll be staying in or around the old quarter as I'm fairly old myself . Best
if near a bar where travellers hang out. In Ho Chi Minh I abandoned my $10
room after one night as it was a bit grim and went to a $25 own bathroom and
air con place very nice- on top of the allez boo? bar. I don't care much
for those places where you have to wake the staff up to get in at night.
Probably $20 - $35 would be OK.

I don't know what happened to Bangkok - it's just not any good any more.

Hi Matt,
Long time since I was twenty one. In October 2001 I found the Asia Hotel
good value. If your legs are good the higher floors are cheaper.
