| | Guest | Goa, Kerala, where's the best beach? Will be in Mumbai in December (of course the christmas/new year high
season) for a wedding and looking to spend a week or two relaxing on
the beach afterwards.
We are well traveled in Asia and have made multiple trips to India,
but never to the south. Tired of the hippy/backpacker scene (been
there done that) but don't want swarms of packaged tourists either.
Having seen the evolution over the past decade or so of places like
Krabi province in Thailand, Lombok in Indonesia, and Pushkar in India,
is there anywhere in Goa, Kerala, or elsewhere in S. India that has
enough tourist infastructure to make for a comfortable, lazy beach
stay, but not so much as to be annoyingly overcrowded in high season?
What are your recommenations?
thanks in advance | |

| | Guest | Goa, Kerala, where's the best beach? I preferred Kerala by a long way.
The beaches at Goa have gray sand, no decent surf, and are covered in Camel
(from the hordes of operators giving tourists camel rides on the
beach). Then again, I live in Sydney which has the best beaches in the
world, so my expectations are high.
The beaches in Kerala are similar but not as bad. Also, when you get bored
with the beach, you can take canal cruises which are very relaxing and let
you view Indian life without it being right in your face (I am sure that as
you have been to India before you know what I am talking about!).
