Typically, your "package" includes their obligation to complete
your journey back to your final flight destination, although they
will disclaim liabilty for any other consequences.

Incidentally, from what I've been told, cruise ships rarely travel
at anywhere close to top speed, maybe only about 1/2 of the
speed of which they're capable which saves on fuel and makes
the stability system work better. So, if they need to spped up
to get back on schedule, they can do so.

You do not need to request an exact time. There are dispatchers
available at the pier who will get you onto a shared shuttle at the pier
(although you should make a prior reservation). Should you desire a
private shuttle, which we did at the Port of San Pedro, you can reserve
that, as well, and just let them know when you are ready to go. The
service is fairly continuous, and they deal with incoming ships all the
time. They know the drill.
