Default between NYC airports

we're leaving from New York's JFK to go overseas. to get there, United
wants to fly us to Chicago, then Dulles, and then on to JFK. but, it
seems that we can go from Chicago to either LaGuardia or Newark
non-stop. we wish to stay the night near JFK.

which of LaGuardia and Newark is the most convenient to JFK? any
ideas?

thanks in advance.

LaGuardia and JFk are both in Queens County. Newark is in NJ. It is about 20
minutes from LaGuardia to JFK traffic permitting. There is also a bus
between both airports.

LaGuardia will be the most "convienent". Cheapest will merely be
a question of how cheap your tickets are. As for any "ideas", I'd
wonder first of all where you are originating. and which Chicago
airport you are using. ORD to IAD to JFK seems a bit of an odd
routing. For one thing, you can go "over seas" from IAD. Heck,
you can go overseas from ORD. This would seem to be some
sort of "lowest cost regardless of schedule and convienence" kind
of ticketing.

OK, this is an award ticket from Star Alliance (United, etc.). we're
flying from JFK to Bangkok on Thai Airlines. thus we have to get to
NYC from Lexington, KY.

United wants us to go LEX-ORD-IAD-JFK. this seems strange to me too,
but from LEX we have to go to ORD, and they have no nonstops to JFK.
they do have nonstops to LGA and EWR. US Air (a Star Alliance partner)
has a six hour trip to JFK.

so, I've been told that there is a bus from LGA to JFK. what would a
taxi cost? (there are two of us) might there even be a hotel that
picks up at both airports?

Drive to Cincinatti and get a direct flight to JFK.

Taxi, I'm guessing, is going to be $35 - 40 You might find a
hotel
picking up from both, but I'd be surprised.

LaGuardia is about 20-30 minutes in the afternoon.. There are frequent
shuttles. Newark is both further and more expensive.

Seems like a good plan. You might check with the hotel if they have any
transportation deals from LGA. No harm in asking at least.

: seems that the Star Alliance partners are easier to book than United.
: besides, they're a lot nicer!

I'd be curious to hear opinions on this: Of all major airline
alliances, which one offers best service (to major European and Asian
tourist spots), ff miles program, nice to deal with, etc. I need to
consolidate my biz with one group.
