Certainly detailed. Welcome to putting up with the world to save your
disposable income. I somehow don't think it is possible to take my bicycle
on such "frugal flights" when I come to Europe to do bicycle touring.....

That said....... All the best in 2006. May you become wealthy enough to
fly in your own LearJet and avoid the situations you describe.

Hmmn. It took me about 10 seconds on the Ryanair site to find the
rules for carriage of bicycles. (Boxed or bagged with pedals off and
handlebars folded, E25 surcharge, pre-booking recommended.)

Why guess when it's so easy to know the facts?

R's,
John

Thanks John for your comments. Yes, I read the Ryanair site some time ago
(when first planning a trip to Europe) regarding carting a bicycle on
their flights: vis-a-vis costs and prebooking. The issue for me will still
be getting onto the aircraft (and airport) in such a "cattle-pen
situation" as the OP described. Mind you, I will be
travelling in the summer (2007) , SO it may not be quite as hectic.
Nevertheless, lugging the bicycle boxed etc to an airport will be a bit
tougher than bicycling to LHR (or a ferry terminal like at Dover) and
then "disassembling" the bicycle....

Cheap flights seem to imply very little luggage - even though there are
provisions for handicapped folks and bicyclists.

Thanks again for your comment. :-)
Ken

I really don't know Jim, but I would disassemble my bicycle there and use
whatever (a box or a bag) the airline I flew on supplied me for packing the
bicycle for shipment.

Is this additional comment suitable for you? I understand you did not ask me
what I would use for packing the bicycle, but I thought you may have missed
my point. I wonder if ANYONE flies with an unboxed/unbagged bicycle on a
public airline. I have a bicycle that breaks down to fit into a couple of
suitcases, but because I am now wanting to use a BOB trailer on some
extended trips, I don't think I will use the suitcases for the bicycle...
