the tickets. And there would be no customs hassles, especially if there

That would depend on whether than were LIVING in the USA. The law
does NOT apply to those that do not LIVE in the USA. As a USA/Australia
dual national who travels to CUba several times a year as part of my
employment with Anonymous Demonic Media, I am NOT subject to the
travel restrictions on Cuba becuase I firstly do not LIVE in the
USA, and, secondly, use my AUsTRALIAN passport to get there.
Also, since I have an Aussie passport that says I was born in
Australia, I use that when transiting the USA coming between Cuba
and Australia, and have NEVER had problems with Customs as LAX or
Miami. I just show my onward ticket to Australia, and I am allowed
through with no further questioning from Customs.

As usual, you are spouting incorrect information. The law applies to
everybody who is under US jurisdiction, which includes US citizens
anywhere in the world. It doesn't matter where they live. It also
includes non-citizens, like those with Green Cards, and people accepted
as refugees living in the US.

You are indeed subject to the restrictions, you simply haven't been
caught.
