Default Distance/cab fare from Union Station to LAX?

I'm arriving in Los Angeles on Amtrak at the downtown Union Station. I
am staying at a hotel very close to LAX (Holiday Inn LAX - I'm flying
out) and was wondering what a cab fare would be to get there? Also,
about how long a ride is this and is this a congested route--I know it
takes someone who really knows L.A. to decipher the traffic situation.

I can't help you with cab fare, but this is an extremely congested route.
You are likely to run into heavy traffic most of the day, with extremely
heavy traffic during rush hours (7am - 10am, 4pm-7pm).

Taxi is $32.50 Flat rate Union Station to LAX. Can 30 minutes to as
long as 1 hour. If you are adventurous you can take the
subway/metrolink for ~$2 and 1 hr 15 min. But it is three different
trains and an airport shuttle. I'd call Holiday Inn and see if they
have a shuttle.

I assume that flat rate means directly to the airport--not "close by."

$32.50 flat rate is direct to the airport but it should be ~$30
anywhere nearby as well. As others have pointed out the transit
strike is still in effect. I forgot to mention that point regarding
the Metrorail option. I suppose it depends when you will travel,
hopefully the strike will be over in a week or two. There are also
several shuttle services that should take you to either LAX or a
nearby hotel in a van for ~$20. Vans are always at the station
waiting when each train when it arrives. But if you are booked at a
specific hotel, I'd still call them and see what they have to suggest.
