I fly United regularly (mostly because my "home base" is DEN, and
so all my miles are with UA). Take JetBlue.

Thanks much for replies thus far. I failed to ask about Virgin America,
which also does this route.

I find it amusing how some posters become very emotional
after one bad experience with an airline and start badmouthing
it at every opportunity instead of calmly considering the facts.
Fact: JetBlue is generally a more reliable airline than United,
with lower flight cancellation rates and better ontime statistics.
Unless the OP has a status with United that would put him into
Economy Plus or some other reason to fly United specifically,
choosing JetBlue over United on this route is a no-brainer.

If it were just my experience then I wouldn't have posted that. But it
isn't. Numerous individuals, including at least one journalist, have
reported similar experiences.

The difference is that if United cancels a flight, they'll get you on
another flight to your destination in a reasonable time period, albeit
perhaps in not the most direct way. Jet Blue can't do that because they
have so few flights between your origin and destination, often only one
per day, and subsequent day's flights are likely to be fully booked.
They also have no reciprocal agreements with other airlines to help
mitigate the situation of a canceled flight, hence their refund policy.
Jet Blue likes to boast about how they'll refund your fare if they can't
accommodate you, and to the traveler that lacks any critical thinking
skills that sounds like a good thing. To those that realize that a
refund of a 21 day advance fare won't even buy 1/2 of a no-advance
purchase ticket on another airline, the refund policy is not a
positive--they'd rather get to their destination at the price they
originally paid.
Really, is it a lot to expect that an airline will get you between point
A and point B at the agreed upon fare?
