Default Travelling in Kafue Nat Park

I am planning to travel as independant traveller to Kafue Nat Park in
late Aug this year. I have travelled previously through SA, Namibia,
Botswana & Zimbabwe.
I understand hiring a suitably rugged 4x4 in Lusaka is not possible.
Can anyone confirm this. If so, I guess the best way is to hire vehicle
in SA or Namibia & drive up.??

Looking for cheap accommodation or camp sites in / around Kafue. I am
planning to stay for about 3 weeks for taking wildlife photos.

I have heard that the wildlife has recovered since the days of
poaching. Can anyone confirm this especially ref predator animals and
elephants.
John

The only thing I can confirm is that Kafue was very dissapointing
compared to Luangwa and the better parks of Kenya and Tanzania. It's a
long time ago since I went there, but neither landscape or wildlife was
worth spending more than a couple of days for.
