| | Guest | Travel in Egypt / Jordan - general questions Hello everyone;
I know that perhaps it is a bit too early, but I'm starting to think about
next years vacation. I would like to go to Egypt and Jordan. The time frame
would be approximately 2-3 weeks. I was wondering if anyne could point me
towards some travelogue(s) that cover that topic. I've done some initial
search on
Google and found couple web-sites, but I thought that perhaps some of you
may
wanna share their experiences from a similar trip... I would be happy to
hear some recommendations as to what is not to be missed in both Egypt &
Jordan (besides obvious sites like pyramids in Giza and Petra in Jordan, as
well as taking into account my time limit). What's the recomemnded route to
do this trip in most efficient way? Also, let's say if we fly into Cairo,
and then fly back home from there, how much time would I need to return from
Jordan? What's the best time of the year to go there (to avoid the biggest
crowds - is it possible at all)? I handle heat pretty well (I guess). How
does heat in Egypt compare to let's say Thailand in the hottest month
(April)?
I understand that these questions may be way too general but if anyone have
any recommendations, comments or simply would like to share their
experiences, I would be very happy to hear them. Thank you all in advance.
Best regards,
Alan D. | |

Indeed it is. We did the same thing, walking in with the dawn.. roaming for
3 hours totally alone except for the Bedouins, and then hiring a couple of the
camels that are there for tourist rides to take us back out, just for the fun
of it.
The tourists were just arriving as we came out. They were nose-to-nose with
our camels as we passed by them in the narrow Siq. I sometimes wonder what
they wondered. Did we spend the night at Petra?

In Egypt I recommend the pyramids in Giza and the Egyptian museum in
Cairo.
Plus a one day out of Cairo excursion to Saqqara, and Dahshur.
Then Valley of Kings in Luxor.
I was there in March 2002 and 2003 and Egypt can be cold (Alexandria)
and hot (Luxor and Aswan) but not unbearably hot at that time.

& Wadi Rum than 99.9% of the people who go there.
What a great experience! We were one night at
Wadi Rum years ago, sleeping on the floor of
what was then a little visitors' center, the only
real building on the site. I don't know what it
is like today. One of the officials took us along
that night as he drove out to a Bedouin tent to
arrange the food for the wedding of one of his
Desert Patrol men. (those guys on camels).
Spent about 3 hours with the family - memorable
and unplanned. The father said he recognized the
'voice' of the old Land Cruiser, and thus knew
the official was driving in to see him.
