I think you have your boats confused. The Liemba doesn't go to Malawi,
mostly because Lake Tanganyika is not bordered by Malawi.
The Liemba leaves Kigoma on Wednesday and arrives in Mpulungu, Zambia on
Friday. Returns to Kigoma on Sunday, I think. Monday through Wednesday
is "normally" Kigoma to Burundi and back. But it has been several years
since the Liemba made that run. In 2002, I recall the fare from Kigoma to
Mpulungu being about US$50. Payment in US dollars cash only. No credit
cards. No travelers checks. No local currency.
I've heard a similar service exists on Lake Malawi but I didn't go that
way.
