Spondon is a suburb of Derby, a rather dull industrial city in the
north of England. However, it's located within easy driving distance
of some terrific wilderness areas in the Peak District and Derbyshire
Dales as well as quaint small towns like Matlock and historic sites
like Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. So, perhaps not a magnetic place in
itself but a good base.

I will be in Spondon on a Mon-Wed, flying into Manchester and driving
to Spondon. Will this most likely be fatal? I've budgeted 2 hours,
workable? Is there a train I could take?

Perstorp looks to me like it's not too far from Malmo, one of the
more
interesting cities in Sweden - and actually that means Copenhagen,
which for my money is one of the loveliest small cities in Europe, is
easy too. The historic city of Helsingborg is also close by.

I fly into Copenhagen and drive to Perstorp. The same questions
apply, can it be done safely? Are there any trains?

No idea about Lanaken, I'm afraid. The nearest big place, Maastricht,
struck me as unexciting.

I fly into Maastricht, but apparently it's only 10 mins from Lanaken
so I don't imagine I could get that lost.

I am planning on driving from Lanaken to Frankfurt, a 3 hour, cross
country trip. The flight is an hour and by the time I make it to and
from the airports I figure just drive. Are there trains available for
this leg?

In Budapest I strongly recommend the badly-named House of Terror if
you're interested in recent history.

Possibly. I'm there 3 days and I'm desparately trying to convince my
better half to meet me there and take a jaunt to Vienna. I hear it's
maybe a half hour away. Are you familar with the "speed trains"? If
so, do they run from Barcelona to Hungary?
