If you come to Hawaii, it should be to enjoy the natural beauty. If you want to gamble (an indoor activity), you can do it in the desert (Las Vegas). You'll also be inviting more of the sleeze factor to the islands. I can't think of anything more opposite of the spirit of the islands than gambling institutions.
That said, I'm living on the mainland and the city here has casinos. Luckily, most are tucked away where I don't have to see them all the time. Its pretty hard to tuck those things away between the beach and the mountains. They will be in your face.
As for diversity, Hawaii has a heck of a lot more diversity than here in the central midwest of the mainland unless you want to promote manufacturing in the islands.
