I'm not quite sure which way round you mean that:
Are airlines using newer planes making more profit because they are
cheaper to run (less fuel and maintenance)?
Are airlines scrimping away with older planes making more profit because
the planes are cheaper to buy?
Are airlines that are making less profit unable to afford better planes,
and those making lots of profit squandering it on new planes?
Or something else...
